Thriving in slightly damp well draining soil, this shade loving fern is a native to the Aleutian Islands. A tough little fern that’s resistant to deer damage, this is a beautiful addition to any garden, with airy long plumes covered in short leaves that float above the earth. Preferring sun and protection from wind, the maidenhair will create a large rhizomatic colony eventually, spreading lovely green fronds on thin, black stems season after season.
